The SchoolRUN

This weekend saw a number of staff donning their trainers and heading out for a 5k run or walk as part of an inter-school event called The SchoolRUN.  Started by Gary Burman at Kingsbridge Community College, it has been running now for a few months and each time the event has taken place, the number of schools getting involved has continued to grow.  Designed to promote the wellbeing benefits of exercise, staff at a number of schools both locally and nationally recorded their times and submitted them from Friday morning until Sunday evening.

At St Peter's, 22 members of staff from different departments took up the challenge and it was amazing to see the pictures and comments flooding in about how pleased and proud people were with their times.  In fact, this event turned out to be very illuminating, as it soon became evident which members of staff are the most competitive!  The top six times counted for speed, and St Peter's staff had a combined time of 2 hours and 16 minutes, giving us second place on the leaderboard.  Not bad for our very first attempt and providing a goal for next time.  Mr Green was the fastest male teacher with a time of 20:25 with Mrs Middlebrooke leading the way for the ladies with 21:29 but there were quite a few very speedy teachers!

Most importantly, the goal was participation, and it was incredible to see so many teachers running, walking and heading out with friends and family to complete 5k in any way they wanted.  Whether the goal was a PB or just to continue a hobby that started during lockdown because of how positive it helps you feel, it did not matter.  There were all these reasons for taking part, and more and the beautiful weather certainly helped.

So now we have completed our first SchoolRUN, training now starts for the next and we will be hoping to encourage even more staff to take part.  I think Mrs Holt is already working out her training plan...
