Visit by Malawian Artists

9 March 2018

Visit by Malawian Artists.

St Peter’s has been selected to be part of a British Council funded fine arts project called “Rivers of the World” which was launched today, with a visit form the project team.

We were very pleased to welcome Akulu and Macpherson, visiting Malawian artists who toured the school, met staff and talked to Y9 Art students about the project and about their own work.

The project will involve Year 9 GCSE Fine Art students working with visiting artists on a theme which focuses on different aspects of  the River Exe. We will be paired up with a school in Liwonde, in Malawi which will be looking at the same theme in relation to their local river, the Shire River. The final pieces of art will be displayed in the Phoenix in Exeter, in a London gallery and also in Malawi.

Students on the Malawi Expedition will also have the opportunity to work with both artists in Malawi.

Amazing Coincidence!!

And in an amazing coincidence, one of the artists, Macpherson Ndalama, was also able to meet up with his old Primary school teacher, Mrs Laney-Hubbard!

Mrs Laney-Hubbard taught MacPherson at Kamuzu Academy Primary School in Malawi,14 years ago and was amazed to hear that he would be visiting St Peter’s today.
