4th December 2017 – Theme of the Week
Week beginning 4th December
With 2 and a half weeks to go, we now turn attention to Christmas and begin a short series called Unwrapping Christmas – “Do not be afraid”
In the lead up to Jesus’ birth, the key characters face fear and receive the incredible words – “Do not be afraid”. In our Christmas series this year we will look at 3 of the characters that received those 4 incredible words from angels and ask “What do the those words and the events of Jesus birth mean for us?”
On Monday & Tuesday, Jon Hancock will be leading assemblies thinking about Mary and I’ll focus on Joseph later in the week.
The QT to support our thinking can be found:
This QT is based on the Mulberry Christmas advert from 2014. At the time, the advert caused quite a stir. Mulberry had a bit of fun parodying the Christmas story so the “Christmas starts with Christ” team had a bit of fun in return…
There will also be the opportunity for our students to think about how we can do Christmas differently. For example, In America, they spend $600 billion dollars on Christmas each year. It would cost $30 billion dollars to provide safe water access to the entire world… If we use our money in a wiser fashion, could we bless and help others who are more in need than we are?
Heavenly Father, we pray that we’d be people who focus on the right things and not miss the real gift at Christmas. Help us to realise as we enter the season of Advent that Jesus’ coming is good news of great joy for all people. Please also help us to use our gifts, talents and money to bring hope and joy to the most vulnerable. In Jesus’ name we pray these things. Amen
God bless and have a great weekend
