Go4SET Celebration and Assessment Day

Wednesday 23rd May 2018

By train and bus, 3 teams from our STEM club travelled down to Plymouth to take part in the Go4SET Celebration and Assessment Day.  This was the culmination of 10 weeks of hard work investigating and designing eco-solutions for hotels and a factory.  The teams arrived and set up their visual displays, including large models of a tree top hotel (featuring real plants), a factory sited within a paper mache reservoir and dam and a floating hotel (including a water-filled tank to show this in action).  The all looked so impressive!  Each team then had to present their project twice to 2 assessors from industry and answer questions.  They all delivered the information knowledgeably and confidently and answered the questions assuredly – the feedback from the assessors was very positive – they were impressed by the enthusiasm and understanding of each team.  After a sunny picnic lunch sitting on the steps outside, the teams then went back in to present their projects to visiting guests.  The guests were enticed to the stalls by the opportunity to win prizes by completing quizzes, competing to generate the largest voltage from a turbine and the chance to make a wind turbine.  Each team successfully engaged the visitors.  Following that, all the participating teams gathered for the awards ceremony, which included an inspirational speaker encouraging each student to follow their passions into the world of work.  Team A won the “pupils choice” award, voted for by 150 participants and guests, and proudly held aloft the trophy.  All the students did St Peter’s proud, enjoyed the experience and are already talking about what their next project will be….
