Keep up with social media apps!

Consider the following questions:

Are you keeping up with the latest social media apps and sites children and young people are using?
Do you know what sites your child is using?
Have you checked their privacy settings?

The risks of using social media apps include:

  •  Interaction with complete strangers
  •  Revealing too much information
  • Cyberbullying

Childnet’s advice and guidance for parents and carers is to:
Talk and listen to your kids. They might tell you everything you want to know or at least drop the name of an app or website. Keep the lines of communication open!

Have you heard of GroupMe?
This app allows the user to share unlimited content.
CommonsenseMedia’s recommended age for using this app is 15+
‘Its main claim to fame may be its emojis* and open search for images: There are tons, including lots that are available for in-app purchase. Unfortunately, some of these emojis feature more adult themes
