A Pretty Curious STEM Event

1 December 2017

Year 8 and year 9 girls enjoyed a fantastic event at Exeter University celebrating women in STEM today. The ‘Pretty Curious’ event sponsored by EDF energy included lots of hands on activities and challenges designed to inspire more girls to get involved in science, technology, engineering and maths in further education and  future careers.

Students used little bits electronics kits to design fun gadgets and build a Star Wars droid and added their own inventions to it. They took on a timed challenge to build a nuclear reactor using immersive virtual reality technology and enjoyed finding out about how STEM research and design is changing our homes. The whole event was supported by industry specialists from all over the UK working in a variety of STEM careers giving the girls opportunities to find out about the wide range of options available to them.
