The first Creative Competition was launched by Year 10 Art leaders, Bethany Port, Martyna Gawronska, Sommer Birtles and Susannah Page. They planned the competition from the start, deciding on categories, dates and creating posters and publicity including getting a mention on student radio.
Thank you to all that entered the competition, we had 85 entries in total. Everyone was really impressed by the huge amount of creativity and skill shown and the variety of outcomes, from drawings, photography, digital outcomes and paintings. An exhibition for the artwork was held in the hallway gallery outside the art classrooms, with parents and students invited to attend on Wednesday 20th March. The evening event was hosted by art captains and small group of volunteers from year 9 who supported. Drinks and cake were also on sale. We hope that this competition will continue to grow and will be able to become an annual event and fundraiser for the Art department, helping us to enrich extra-curricular provision.
It was very difficult to judge the entries, but with a little help from staff members who gave their input, art leaders awarded the following certificates.
Charlie 7SAB Best Photographic Entry
Kitty – 8ACS Best Digital Entry
Hannah –8RED Most Creative Entry
Grace 9NLT Best Technique
Best Overall Entry was Sally in 7MMM who also won an art pack with a selection of art materials and a sketchbook for her fantastic rendering of a wolf.
Certificates will be awarded in year group assemblies. Art leaders hope to follow on from their success in this event by running a series of lunchtime art workshops for year 7 and 8 students next term. Many thanks from The Art Department to our art leaders for their hard work and commitment in getting this new event off the ground.
