Whole School Easter Worship

29 March 2018

Whole School Easter Worship

This morning in whole school assembly we brought to a close our 40acts challenge in spectacular fashion!

During the 40 days of Lent we have been taking part in something called 40acts.

40acts is a generosity challenge which invites people to do Lent a bit differently. During the forty days of Lent, 40acts participants are invited to take part in simple acts of generosity which will challenge them to ‘do Lent generously’ in 2018.

Since the start of this half term, random acts of kindness have been taking place all over St.Peter’s and this morning the challenge came to a dramatic conclusion when students entered the school to find over 1200 individually hand made hearts placed in lockers. Each heart had the students name on and had a personalised message stating character traits that were admired in the person.

In addition, each member of staff received a personalised message thanking them for what they bring to the school.

One member of staff wrote the following:

I will always remember this day, for the rest of my life, as the day that over 1300 students and staff were individually made to feel unique, loved and appreciated. I am blown away by the tangible sense of excitement and joy in the corridors this morning.

As I was writing that last sentence, a boy held his heart up to his friend as he entered the room and said: “Look! We’re loved!” That says it all.

It is important to note that this has been a student-led project (with a little help from staff) and the hope and prayer is that the 40acts challenge prepares everyone for a life of big-heartedness and generosity.

During our assembly we looked at this project and then turned our attention to the life changing events of the first Easter.  Over the past couple of years we have explored the message of Jesus through social media videos and having looked at Facebook and the BBC website, this morning we turned to Twitter. We watched a powerful video called “Follow” which looks at the life, death and resurrection of Jesus through Twitter (a preview can be found here: https://www.ignitermedia.com/products/7374-follow).

We hope and pray that you all have a great Easter and know the joy, peace, hope, love and generosity that the Lord Jesus brings.

God bless
