24 October 2018

Week beginning 29th October

Welcome back! We hope and pray that you’ve had a good half term break. During this half term we will be focussing on COMMUNITY however the first 2 weeks will have a particular focus on REMEMBRANCE.

This year we mark the centenary of the end of World War 1. On Remembrance Sunday 11 November 2018, people around the Commonwealth will be reflecting on the lives that were changed irrevocably, and those that were lost.

Some 65 million men were mobilised across Europe during World War 1. Nearly a third of them – some 21 million – were wounded. Another 8.5 million were killed and some 7.7 million were taken prisoners of war. All of them had family and friends whose lives were changed forever by the events of 1914-1918.

This year gives us the chance to remember, but also to pray and work for peace, looking forward with hope.

At St.Peter’s we will be doing a variety of things to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of WW1.

Firstly, the Chapel area will be transformed with red poppies containing student reflections.

Secondly, there will be assemblies led by students reflecting on their recent Battlefields trip and Lee Spencer (The Rowing Marine) will be joining us to share his incredible story.

Finally, there will be a whole school gathering for a 2 minute silence on Friday 9th Nov. More details nearer the time.

In addition to our focus on remembrance, there is a great opportunity in the first couple of weeks back to help people in tough situations.

We’re hoping this year to take part in the Blythswood appeal to send shoe boxes with Christmas gifts to people in countries like Albania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Moldova, Romania, Serbia and Ukraine. The shoe boxes are filled with gifts like hat, scarf, gloves, toiletries, toothbrush, small toys for children, colouring books and pens and small household items, and some sweets.

The QT for the first week back can be found here and explains all about the shoebox appeal:

Can you help us fill and send some shoeboxes this year?

Heavenly Father we pray that these shoeboxes will be a blessing to people. We pray for the children and their families who are suffering in the desperate circumstances of poverty, sickness and war. We pray that these shoeboxes will be delivered to the right people who are in greatest need of our love and support. Amen

God bless and have a great week

Mr Baker
