Week beginning 2nd March
We hope and pray that the first week back has gone well. On Ash Wednesday we launched our 40acts challenge for 2020 and students have been busy bringing joy and hope through a variety of ways.
During Lent, we are once again getting involved with the 40acts generosity challenge (https://40acts.org.uk/). Lent marks a pivotal point in the history of the church, when Jesus prepared to give himself up as a sacrifice. Traditionally we mark Lent by giving something up, but what if we could do more than that? What if Lent was a time when we were kind-hearted, generous and loving to those around us?
At St.Peter’s we will be doing things slightly differently this year but we still hope to see students and staff perform hundreds of small acts of generosity that have the power to change our school community as well as other parts of the city.
Over the past few years we have raised huge sums for charities such as Tearfund and Compassion. This has led to an excess of charity money which we are looking to give away.
In our 40acts challenge this year, each student has the following challenge stuck into their planner:
If students complete the 10 challenges they will receive £50 which will go to a charity of their choice!
During the challenge period our Acts of worship will support the theme of COMPASSION and this coming week will be focus on – Generosity – ready to care for the poor
The Bible talks a lot about God’s particular love of the poor, weak and vulnerable. If we are serious about being a Church of England school, we will do what we can to meet needs where we find them, to fight oppression and to treat everyone with honour and respect. 40acts is about tangible, practical acts of generosity to others.
The QT for the coming week focusses on Ann and John Jurczynski. Ann and John are one of the fastest long-distance tandem bicycle teams in the world. They’ve competed together in events that require 50-plus hours of cycling with no sleep. They are a great partnership but what are the characteristics that keep them going and help them succeed? Patience, perseverance, teamwork, encouragement, forgiveness, collaboration, trust, empathy, humility and a whole lot more makes them a dynamic duo.

Heavenly Father, thank you for making us part of a team. Thank you for giving us the strength to both give and accept from one another. Make us aware of opportunities to bless and encourage others. Help us to reflect your love in everything we do. Amen
