Student Leadership

At St Peter’s we want to give all students the Opportunity to be courageous advocates for the things they are passionate about. In 2024 we introduced a suite of Leadership roles available to students and in 2025 we have further built on these. These groups were formed in October 2025 and already have many exciting plans for the year ahead.

Below is an update from all groups from the Spring 2026 term:

Art and Photography Leaders - Our Art and Photography Captains have been working brilliantly behind the scenes this month, taking on a range of responsibilities to keep the department running smoothly. From checking and charging cameras to managing paper supplies, cleaning the print room, and preparing materials for lessons, they have shown real initiative and care. We are incredibly proud of the positive difference they are making to the Art Department every day.

Christian Union Leaders - Our Christian Union Leaders have delivered a series of sessions this term exploring the topic of forgiveness and the challenges that come with it. They have also decided to run a film club this half term, which all students are invited to. They have chosen the film a Case for Christ, which is about journalist Lee Strobel's quest to disprove the resurrection.

Cultural Leaders – The Cultural Leaders are excited to announce St. Peter's first international film festival (SPIFF). We will be showing foreign language films each Monday lunchtime of the summer term in the Drama studio. The students have chosen the films and are writing reviews of each film to put in a 'What's On Guide'. We will be using our profits from the Candy Cane Messenger stall to buy some stock of international snacks to sell during the film. We have a new logo and our own display board now!

Digital Leaders – The Digital Leaders have enjoyed getting hands on with live Chromebooks, making a difference to the departments within the school by performing weekly basic repairs.

Design & Technology Leaders – The Design Technology Leaders have stopped operating. Students have been invited to join another Leadership role if they speak to Mrs Hough.

Food & Nutrition Leaders - Our food leaders have been planning our new herb garden that is due to open next term! This term has been navigating the ups, downs, left and right of the new milk delivery round. Even though there has been a few spillages along the way, we are now getting the hang of it!

Learning Environment Leaders – The Learning Environment Leaders have stopped operating. Students have been invited to join another Leadership role if they speak to Mrs Hough.

Litterbug Leaders - Our amazing Litterbug Leaders have been patrolling the courtyard every lunchtime and have now started to work on the indoor social areas. They are in the process of designing high-viz clothing and looking at bright coloured litter pickers to improve their presence. Sadly, our work is getting less as we have found that more are using the bins! Well done everyone!

Mental Health Ambassadors - Our Mental Health Ambassadors have a had a productive term. MHST came in to deliver additional training and encouraged the MH Ambassadors to think about what they want to achieve. The Mental Health Ambassadors also spent time review the new resource the MHST have produced to go out to secondary schools. The students participated in each stage of the process; in the devising, scripting and filming of the piece. The students participated in the lesson, as it would be delivered and then provided insights and feedback on the resource.

Performing Arts Leaders – Our Performing Arts Leaders have been busy running a Year 7 Drama club and will be supporting the Year 6 transition with some Drama related activities and performances. Many Leaders were also performing in the school production of West Side Story which was yet another great success for St Peter’s.

Tech Team - Great work from the Tech Team in supporting a hugely successful school production of West Side Story.  They supported the lights, sound and microphone set up, allowing for the technical side of events to run smoothly.  The team have also continued with their weekly responsibility for assembly sound and visual as well as school radio.

Reading Ambassadors – Our Reading Ambassadors have been busy this term – particularly during our amazing World Book Week, where they not only helped organise a wealth of reading activities, but also raised a significant sum of money for our whole reading school community.  Our Reading Ambassadors arranged for staff from across departments to share a book each day in the library at lunch time, they organised a bookish cake competition which had some incredible (and tasty) entries, they set up a writing competition and even helped in judge this, they arranged a whole school non-uniform day to raise funds for reading and they brilliantly helped us select our core reading river text ‘Skandar and The Secret Element’ which was read in its entirety to all Year 7s and 8s across all subjects on World Book Day. It was a fantastic week which had everybody talking about books!

Relational Ambassadors – The Year 7 Relational Ambassadors have now been appointed and are eagerly awaiting training from the Year 8 team.

Sparx Leaders – Sparx Leaders have continued to build on their skills, showing confidence and initiative in the guidance they give to students.

Sports Leaders - The students have been completing Unit 2 focusing on planning, organising and adapting activities to meet the needs of different groups. They are continuing to complete their volunteering hours by supporting and leading others within the school community.

STEM Leaders - Students have been busy working on their energising futures ‘Our RoboRevolution’ competition entry. They are designing an automated drone robot which would fly out to remote parts of the world acting as an AI teacher for communities which currently don’t have access to schooling and education.

Student Council - The Student Council have been busy this term working towards and attending a meeting with Mr Randall. They have been communicating with tutor groups and Year Councils to collate a range of different problems and solutions that impact on students across the school. The Council also met with Mrs Hough to discuss and share student ideas regarding merit spending.

Student Librarian - This term the Student Librarians have helped out at our knitting club, passing on their skills of pom pom making which they first gained making stock for the Christmas Fair last December . Others have helped process 100 new copies of Wolf Siren by Beth O'Brien which is a Carnegie Competition Shortlist winner, being read very soon by students in English lessons.  World Book Week saw the leaders, helping out with booky activities, like making a mini book and book competitions.

Year Leaders – The Year Leader team have represented the views of their tutor groups at Year Leader meetings and are preparing their first set of feedback which can go back to tutors.
