Student Leadership
At St Peter’s we want to give all students the Opportunity to be courageous advocates for the things they are passionate about. In 2024 we introduced a suite of Leadership roles available to students so they could make this difference. These groups have had an incredible year and are already busy planning where else they might make a difference next year.
STEM Leaders: Since Christmas STEM leaders have planned and led Year 7 STEM taster sessions on volcanic lava lamps, electrical circuits and microscopes and they have lots of exciting ideas for more sessions over the summer term. Many of our STEM leaders have also competed in the First Tech Challenge and First Lego League robotics competitions. They have started making plans for fund raising over the Summer term to allow students to be able to continue with these projects next season. They are actively looking for local companies to sponsor them and have set up a just giving page.
Christian Union Leaders: CU Leaders have been busy this term as we've thought about our own stories about life with Jesus. The CU leaders have shared their own testimonies, interviewed guests about their faith (including Mr Randall) and blessed the school with over 100 free pancakes topped and given out over lunchtime.
Mental Health Ambassadors: The Mental Health Ambassadors had training with the Mental Health Support Team this month, as they thought about what Mental Health and Wellbeing at St. Peter's. Students learnt about the 5 ways to Wellbeing, how they can help people who are finding things difficult and thought about the ways they look after their own Mental Health and Wellbeing. The group spent time reflecting on what St. Peter's already does well, and began thinking about what little changes they would like to see that could improve wellbeing across the school.
Relational Ambassadors: We are planning training this term to help our ambassadors be equipped for their important work in lessons. It involves supporting how lessons go and encouraging everyone to work as a team within the classroom. It is a flexible and enjoyable way to help make a difference to every lesson but don’t worry there is no requirement to do it all the time – rather to pick moments you feel you can help with.
Arts Leaders: The Arts Leaders have enjoyed settling into their roles helping to freshen up displays and keep equipment clean and tidy
Sparx Leaders: The sparx leaders have been stepping up and supporting other students. Taking it upon themselves to help others understand and push themselves to complete their homework early.
Year Leaders: The Year Leader Team have been meeting with their Heads of Year to discuss things relevant to their year group and to raise things they would like the Student Council to discuss. The Year 10 team in particular deserves a shout out for their proactivity with some of the things they have discussed
Student Council: The students have again been busy this term continuing their work as the ‘voice of the students’ across the school. They’ve organised and had meeting with Mr Randall in which they raised and discussed a number of student related issues. During this time, they were advised to arrange follow-up meetings with Mr Bamber and Mrs Hough who were then able to discuss the issues further. Please speak to the Council members if you’d like to hear specifically what was shared in those meetings. They will be recruiting new members from Year 7 very soon.
Cultural Leaders: Cultural Leaders are going strong, and enjoying ourselves. Our International Mother Tongues Day quiz was very popular with many entrants. A lot of green marks were awarded. We are just launching our next project, 'Ramadan Lantern Competition' to celebrate Ramadan. These will be displayed in the library.
Digital Leaders: The Digital Leaders spent last term checking computer equipment in the Computer suites and have now moved onto checking chromebook trolleys. They are getting excited about an upcoming training session where they will learn some basic repair skills they can use to make damaged tech good again.
Community Leaders: The Community Leaders have recently got moving and have put their energy into helping with some of celebration displays around the school and in helping the merit spending event be a success
Young Enterprise Alumni Leaders: The team have made huge strides forward with their WEEE business this half term and the next job for the Alumni Leaders is to help them know what to include to make their Company Report turn the judges heads in the Company Programme
Student Librarians: The team have been busy helping process our new stock, this meant that our book fair on World Book Day had a wide selection of new stock to borrow. Thank you to our leaders for helping on World Book Day with the dress up a potato competition and also helping our students make very tiny, tiny books from one sheet of A4 paper! There are plans to make a very very tiny library with the very, very tiny books.
