On Tuesday 13th September, the English Department and School Library welcomed Patrice Lawrence, an award winning writer of young people’s fiction  Patrice met and chatted to pupils in the library before sharing her journey from birth to internationally renowned author with a group of our Year 8 pupils.  Our pupils had a fantastic time hearing about Patrice’s books, where her ideas as a writer come from and asking her questions about her writing. Patrice’s message was clear:  no matter who you are and what your starting point in life is, you are valuable and you can make your voice heard.

Each of the Year 8 students at the workshop was gifted a copy of her latest book, The Elemental Detectives, and they each had the opportunity to chat to Patrice and to get their book personally signed.  This visit and the gift of the books was generously arranged by the Budleigh Salterton Literary Festival: https://budlitfest.org.uk/ In October, The English Department will host a visit from Nikita Gill, a British-Indian poet, playwright, writer and illustrator who has written and curated seven volumes of poetry.
