And So the Ten Tors Training Begins…
Our new Ten Tors trainees headed out onto Dartmoor on Saturday 17th October for their latest training walk, enjoying clear blue skies and excellent conditions for a day on the moor.
The group made the most of the fine weather to develop a range of essential expedition skills. Training included river crossings, escaping into emergency shelters (KISU’s) and practising basic navigation. Everyone also calculated their individual pacing over a 100m distance before putting this into practice, building confidence in the skills needed to navigate accurately across Dartmoor’s challenging terrain.
It was a valuable opportunity for the trainees to put their learning into action and continue developing the practical skills, confidence and teamwork that are so important for the Ten Tors Challenge.
Our next training walk will take us to the Sourton area of north-west Dartmoor in mid-November, where we’ll continue preparing for the challenges ahead.
Whatever the weather brings, the training continues, and we look forward to sharing more of the team’s progress as the season unfolds.
